We are looking for a Cloud Engineer to join our team in Johannesburg (Hybrid).


The Cloud Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining secure, scalable, and high-performing cloud infrastructure that enables enterprise data platforms, applications, and advanced analytics solutions. This role plays a critical part in supporting the organisation's cloud strategy by leveraging Microsoft Azure services to deliver reliable, resilient, and cost-effective cloud environments.

Responsibilities

  • Design, deploy, and manage scalable cloud infrastructure using Microsoft Azure.
  • Build and maintain secure, highly available, and resilient cloud environments that support enterprise applications and data platforms.
  • Automate infrastructure provisioning and configuration using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform, Bicep, or ARM templates.
  • Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines to enable automated deployment of cloud resources and applications.
  • Implement cloud security best practices, including identity and access management, network security, encryption, and compliance controls.
  • Monitor cloud environments to ensure optimal performance, availability, and cost efficiency using Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, and Application Insights.
  • Support the integration of cloud platforms with enterprise systems, APIs, and third-party services.
  • Collaborate with Data Engineers to provide cloud infrastructure that supports scalable data pipelines, analytics platforms, and business intelligence solutions.
  • Optimize cloud resource utilization through performance tuning, capacity planning, and cost management initiatives.
  • Troubleshoot infrastructure, networking, and cloud platform issues while ensuring minimal service disruption.
  • Maintain cloud governance standards, backup strategies, disaster recovery solutions, and business continuity plans.
  • Produce and maintain technical documentation, operational procedures, and architecture diagrams.
  • Stay current with emerging Azure technologies and recommend improvements to enhance platform capability and operational efficiency.

Qualifications

  • Diploma or Degree in Computer Science, IT, or related field

Essential skills

  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Azure infrastructure and cloud-native services.
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Bicep, or ARM Templates).
  • Proficiency in Azure Virtual Networks, Virtual Machines, Azure Storage, Azure App Services, Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS), and Azure Functions.
  • Experience implementing CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions.
  • Knowledge of Azure Active Directory, Role-Based Access Control (RBAC), and cloud security best practices.
  • Experience with cloud networking, VPNs, private endpoints, load balancing, and firewalls.
  • Strong scripting skills using PowerShell, Bash, or Python.
  • Experience with monitoring, logging, and performance optimization using Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, and Application Insights.
  • Understanding of cloud governance, disaster recovery, backup, and high-availability architectures.
  • Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement capabilities.

Desired skills

  • Experience supporting enterprise data platforms and cloud-based analytics solutions.
  • Knowledge of Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse Analytics, Microsoft Fabric, or Databricks.
  • Experience with containerization technologies including Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Familiarity with DevSecOps practices and cloud security frameworks.
  • Understanding of API integration and cloud-based integration patterns.
  • Experience working in Agile delivery environments.
  • Knowledge of FinOps principles and Azure cost optimization strategies.
  • Exposure to hybrid cloud and multi-cloud environments.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Purview or cloud data governance solutions.
  • Ability to provide technical mentorship and contribute to cloud architecture best practices.

Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years experience in cloud engineering, infrastructure engineering, or platform engineering.
  • Proven experience designing, implementing, and supporting Microsoft Azure cloud environments in enterprise organizations.
  • Experience deploying and managing Infrastructure as Code solutions in production environments.
  • Demonstrated experience implementing CI/CD pipelines and cloud automation.
  • Experience managing cloud security, networking, identity, and governance controls.
  • Experience supporting high-availability, scalable, and mission-critical cloud platforms.
  • Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams including architects, software engineers, data engineers, and business stakeholders.
  • Experience optimizing cloud performance, reliability, and operational costs.
  • Previous experience supporting data engineering, advanced analytics, or business intelligence platforms is highly desirable.
